As of Oct 21, 2026, 3,637 of the 6,216 hazmat carriers in this dataset (58.5%) have no FMCSA safety rating; of the 2,579 that have one, 2,067 (80.1%) are more than 10 years old. 330 unrated carriers run 100 or more power units. A rating reflects one compliance review on its date, not current performance.

How we counted

Every carrier in the dataset is counted once: unrated when the FMCSA census holds no safety rating for it, otherwise by the age of its rating on this build's date.
